Ah the Flamingo !! Gotta love these playful Flamingos. Standing Proud, and colorful in this vibrant abstract watercolor piece. Flamingos can be found at many locations in Bonaire. Dense concentrations occur at Pekelmeer in the South, and Lac Bay in Gotomeer, in the North.
Interesting facts: Flamingo nests are made of mud and look like mini mud volcanoes with room for just one egg. They get their pink color from plants that produce red, yellow or orange pigments, called Carotenoids. They are also found in microscopic algae that brine shrimp eat, while their body metabolizes the pigments it turns its feathers pink.
The flamingo are filter feeders meaning that while they eat they place their heads upside down in the water with its bill pointed at their feet. Then they sweep their heads side to side using their tongue to pump water in and out of its bill. The comb-like plates along the edge of their bill creates a filter for water to rush out while trapping their food inside.
Painted in QOR watercolor paint known to be one of the highest quality paints holding their vibrancy and pigments even under the most diluted conditions.
